Vanity Dimensions

In this article, we’ll share tips to help you maintain a functional and harmonious vanity units. Every detail counts in a space dedicated to comfort and well-being. Discover our suggestions for optimizing your layout and positioning your furniture to transform your bathroom into a serene, cocoon-like retreat.

A – Length (Left to Right)

This is the total horizontal span of the vanity. Measure the wall space where you plan to install it — from the far left to the far right. Don’t forget to allow extra clearance for doors, walls, or nearby furniture to ensure easy movement and a balanced layout.

B – Height (Top to Bottom)

This is the vertical distance from the top of the vanity wooden part down to the bottom of the vanity. Measure from your desired installation height on the wall to the lowest point of the unit. Consider who will be using the vanity — higher for adults, lower for children or accessibility needs.

C – Width (Front to Back)

This is how far the vanity extends from the wall into the room. Measure from the wall outward to determine how much space the unit will occupy. Make sure there’s enough clearance in front for opening drawers and moving comfortably in the space.

To make this space functional and pleasant to live in, leave 50 centimetres between each piece of furniture, 70 centimetres in front of a shower or washbasin and 1 metre in front of a bathtub. For your safety, a space of 40 to 60 cm is required between electrical connections and water points to avoid electrocution.

Measurements

"LENGHT"
How to measure the lengh of the vanity ?

Choosing the right length for your bathroom vanity is a personal decision that depends on the size of your space and how you plan to use it. At ROVALUX, our vanities are adaptable and available in a wide range of lengths from 60 cm to 160 cm,so you can find the perfect fit for your bathroom.

Measure your space carefully. Make sure there’s enough room around the vanity so it’s not too close to the shower or bathtub. A well-placed vanity makes your bathroom more functional and easier to use.

Tips

  • Countertop Overhang
The countertop extends 0.5 cm beyond the vanity on each side, making the total length 1 cm longer than the vanity body. Always include this in your measurements to avoid tight fits against side walls or obstacles.
  • Spaceing
Consider well how much usable space you have. Our vanities range from 60 cm to 160 cm, offering flexibility for small to spacious master bathrooms. Ensure the vanity isn’t too close to the shower, bathtub, or doors.
  • Visualizing
Use painter’s tape to outline the full length of the vanity directly on your wall. This helps you visualize the exact footprint, ensuring the unit fits comfortably and that drawers can open without obstruction.

"HEIGHT"
What’s the right height of countertop and basin?

It’s a common question and an important one. No one enjoys bending down too far or reaching up uncomfortably to use the sink. According to European standards, the recommended distance from the top of the countertop to the drain plug is approximately 83 cm. The total height from the floor to the top of the coutertop surface usually falls between 85 and 90 cm, depending on your comfort and that of your family.

Tips

  • Follow the 85–90 cm Rule
For a balanced and ergonomic setup, aim for a total height between 85 and 90 cm from the floor to the top of the basin. This works well for most adults and is the range commonly recommended across Europe.
  • Adjust for Sink Type
If your basin is integrated, in your countertop  just measure straight up. But if your basin sits on top of the countertop, subtract the basin’s height from the total desired height and install the vanity accordingly to maintain comfort.
  • Consider Your Household Needs
Think about who will be using the bathroom most often. For shared spaces or family bathrooms, choose a standard height that works for everyone. For children’s bathrooms or spaces that require accessibility, lower the height slightly for ease of use.

"WIDTH"
How far should vanity extend into the room?

The width of your vanity refers to how much space it occupies from the wall outward. It’s an essential measurement, especially in compact bathrooms, to ensure smooth circulation and easy access to drawers, doors, and other fixtures.
At ROVALUX, our vanities are adaptable and available in a wide range of widths from 40 cm to 55 cm, so you can find the perfect fit for your bathroom.

Tips

  • Check Drawer and Door Clearance
Make sure there’s enough space in front of the vanity to comfortably open drawers and cabinet doors. Aim for at least 70 cm of free space in front of the unit to allow easy movement and avoid bumping into other elements.
  • Visualizing
Place a cardboard box or tape on the floor at the intended depth to simulate how far the vanity will extend. Walk around it to see how it affects flow, especially if it's near a shower, toilet, or door.

Wall hung floating or Floor standing model ?

Wall-hung vanities offer a sleek, modern aesthetic and make floor cleaning easier, but they require a solid and load-bearing wall for safe installation. The larger the vanity, the heavier it becomes which is why ROVALUX includes reinforced wall-fixing kits with every unit. However, always consult your installer to confirm your wall’s compatibility.

If your wall isn’t suitable, don’t worry — we also offer custom models with supporting legs, designed to ensure both stability and style.

Tips

  • Know Your Wall Type
Before choosing a floating model, check if the wall you are going to install is a load bearing wall, if so you have no issue installing anytype of vanity , If not sure, ask your installer to verify if your wall and made of materials like brick, concrete, or reinforced drywall. Avoid wall-hung options on weak partitions without reinforcement.
  • Choose Stability When Needed
For heavy vanities, double basins, or less stable walls, opt for a floor-standing model with supporting legs. It offers more structural support and peace of mind — without sacrificing style, especially with our custom design options.
  • Floor-Standing Models with Legs
When choosing a floor-standing vanity, make sure to calculate the total height from the floor to the top of the countertop, this includes the height of the vanity, the countertop, and the metal legs. ( ideally fall between 85 and 90 cm, depending on your comfort)

Mirror Height Tips

Just like every ROVALUX vanity, our mirrors are fully customizable to suit your bathroom’s layout and style. Whether you prefer a sleek, minimalist look or a bold, framed design, you can adjust the size, shape, and positioning to meet your needs.

Standard Mirror Positioning
Center of the mirror: Ideally placed at 150–160 cm from the floor
Bottom edge of mirror: Typically starts at 120–130 cm from the floor

This height range keeps the mirror aligned with eye level for most adults and maintains visual harmony above the vanity.

Pharmacy Cabinet Positioning
Pharmacy cabinets combine a mirror with smart, concealed storage perfect for keeping daily items organized while saving space.
Bottom edge height: At least 120 cm from the floor
Distance from sink: Maintain a 2–40 cm gap above the vanity
Purpose: Safer for families (less accessible to children) and optimal for adult use

Tips

  • Center the Mirror to Your Eye Level
For a comfortable reflection, position the mirror center at adult eye level (around 155 cm from the floor). This works well for shared bathrooms and prevents awkward angles.
  • Leave Vertical Room Above the basin
Whether it's a mirror or pharmacy cabinet, maintain 20–40 cm of space above the basin to avoid splash zones and give the setup an airy, balanced appearance.
  • Choose Based on Your Storage Needs
If your bathroom lacks upper storage, a pharmacy cabinet is a practical upgrade. It offers hidden shelves while preserving a clean mirror front ideal for small or family bathrooms.

What about storage columns ?

In any well-organized bathroom, having practical storage is essential—and tall storage columns are one of the most efficient and elegant solutions. These vertical cabinets provide generous storage capacity while maintaining a minimal footprint.

To ensure a harmonious look, we recommend aligning the top of your column cabinet with the top edge of your mirror or mirror cabinet. This alignment creates clean visual symmetry, enhancing the overall design of the bathroom.

Tall columns are ideal for storing towels, care products, and daily essentials, all within easy reach—making them both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Tips

  • Align with Mirror Height for a Cohesive Look
To create a visually balanced bathroom, align the top of your storage column with the top of your mirror or mirror cabinet. This alignment gives the space a clean, architectural feel and avoids awkward height differences between fixtures.
  • Use Vertical Space Strategically
Tall columns are perfect for maximizing storage in narrow bathrooms. Install them near the vanity for easy access to towels, toiletries, and essentials — especially helpful when under-sink storage is limited.
  • Choose Layout Based on Use
Consider you vanity model and match the exterior look. Consider also  your daily needs when selecting internal shelves or compartments.

The importance of adapting to different profiles

Standards are useful in helping us to pinpoint where furniture should be placed, but the users of that furniture also need to be taken into account! Different profiles may be present in your home, so it's a question of finding a balance or adaptations with the aim of making the room usable by all.

Adapting Bathroom Furniture for All Users

Every bathroom should be both beautiful and accessible. Whether you're designing for tall individuals, children, or people with reduced mobility (PRM), here are important height guidelines to help you adapt your vanity units, sinks, mirrors, and storage columns for comfort, functionality, and long-term value.

Tips

  • For Taller Users: Raising the vanity height improves comfort and reduces strain:
Recommended vanity height: Between 85 and 92 cm from the floor (including countertop)
This adjustment makes daily routines more ergonomic while maintaining a sleek look
  • PRM : For users with mobility limitations, it's essential to follow accessibility standards. Vanity and washbasin clearance:  At least 70 cm from floor to bottom of sink or vanity for knee space. Yet fully depending to the individual user's limitations.
Accessible zone dimensions: At least 60 cm wide and 30 cm deep for wheelchair access
Mirror height: Install the lower edge between 80 and 105 cm from the floor
Storage columns: Should be mounted so that usable compartments fall between 30 and 150 cm above the floor.
